Downstream featured original music by Laura Kahle, Kristin Berardi, Kimba Fatiaki and Isaac Hurren written especially for the 10 piece jazz/improvising ensemble. Tracks 2 and 7 were commissioned by the Pinnacles Festival of Music 2000 and 2002.
The regular configuration of the band is 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 3 saxes (alto, tenor, bari) and a 4 piece rhythm section (piano, bass, drums and guitar) and vocals. Since 2003 WECC have premiered works by Laura Kahle, Isaac Hurren, Kristin Berardi, Rafael Karlen, Mikael Strand, Steve Newcomb, John Smallcombe, Nathan Langford, Damian Sim, James Sherlock, Hannah Macklin, Parmis Rose and Wade Gregory.
